Cold-Rolled Steel Building in Plymouth: Football Club Case Study
Sep 23, 2026
Falcon Canopies recently constructed a cold-rolled steel building for a football club in Plymouth. Featuring dark grey cladding, two roller shutter doors and rooflights, the building combines an open interior with practical access and natural daylight.
The project showcases our work on cold-rolled steel buildings, with photographs documenting the build from the exposed framework through to the enclosed structure.
The Plymouth project at a glance
- Location: Plymouth, Devon
- Building type: Enclosed cold-rolled steel building
- Exterior: Dark grey profiled wall cladding
- Roof: Pitched roof incorporating translucent rooflights
- Access: Two roller shutter doors and a separate personnel door
- Interior: Open floor space without central support columns

From steel framework to enclosed building
The construction photographs show the steel frame erected on a concrete base, with the roof structure, wall supports and door openings taking shape before the cladding was installed.
This stage reveals an important feature of the building: its unobstructed interior. With no central support columns dividing the floor, the layout leaves room to position equipment and organise the space around its intended use.
Roof and wall cladding then enclosed the frame. Dark grey panels, matching corner trims and neatly framed openings give the exterior a consistent appearance. The photographs capture this progression while construction activity continued across the surrounding site.

Roller shutter doors and separate pedestrian access
Two roller shutter doors sit along the building’s long elevation, providing large openings into the main interior. Their position offers two access points for moving larger items in and out.
A separate personnel door in the gable end allows people to enter without opening either shutter. This combination gives the building both large loading openings and a convenient everyday entrance.
For anyone planning a similar project, the size and position of doors are useful starting points when discussing how the building will operate.
Rooflights bring daylight into the space
Translucent rooflight panels are fitted across both slopes of the pitched roof. These bring daylight into the interior from above, while a window in the side elevation provides additional light and a view outside.
The interior photographs show the effect clearly: daylight reaches the floor even with the roller shutter doors closed. Alongside the open layout, the rooflights help create a bright, usable space.
A practical example of an enclosed steel building
This Plymouth project brings together several useful building features: an open interior, large access doors, a separate pedestrian entrance and natural roof lighting.
It also illustrates how the individual elements of a steel building work together. The frame establishes the space, the cladding encloses it, and the doors and rooflights shape how people can access and use it.
Falcon Canopies offers bespoke cold-rolled steel buildings with layouts and specifications tailored to the site and intended application.
