Cold-Rolled Steel Buildings

A steel-framed loading shelter helps protect staff, vehicles and goods during loading and unloading. A suitably designed structure can reduce weather-related disruption and create a safer, more practical working area outside a warehouse, factory, retail unit or distribution facility.

Our loading bay canopies can be designed around the height and width of existing roller shutter doors, the size of vehicles using the yard and the required covered working area. The structure may be positioned next to a building or designed as a completely freestanding loading shelter with independent columns and foundations.

Vehicle clearance is a central part of the design. The height of vans, HGVs, trailers and handling equipment must be considered alongside the slope of the yard, turning movements and the position of the roller doors. Column locations should protect the structure without restricting reversing routes or reducing the usable width of the loading area.

Optional Armco barriers and column protectors can be incorporated to reduce the risk of vehicle impact. The building can also include single-skin side cladding, internal roof liners, gutters, downpipes, lighting and drainage arrangements to suit the site.

A cold-rolled steel workshop can provide a practical space for manufacturing, repairs, fabrication, maintenance or general business operations. Clear internal areas can be planned around machinery, workbenches, racking and vehicle access, while roller shutters and personnel doors can be positioned to suit everyday operations.

The exterior can be finished in a range of cladding profiles and colours to complement existing premises. Rooflights can be considered where natural daylight would improve the internal working environment, while insulated cladding may be more appropriate where temperature control is required.

Steel storage buildings offer a secure and adaptable solution for stock, tools, materials, machinery and business equipment. They can be designed as open-fronted shelters for frequent access or enclosed with steel cladding and suitable doors where greater security and weather protection are required.

The layout can be planned around pallet storage, racking, forklifts, delivery vehicles or specialist equipment. Where the building will be used for bulk materials or waste handling, the position of internal walls, protective barriers and access openings can be considered at the design stage.

A cold-rolled frame can also provide additional covered storage beside an existing warehouse when extending the main building is not practical.

Cold-rolled steel frames are well suited to vehicle storage buildings, garages, fleet shelters and valeting areas. The building can provide clear access for cars, vans, commercial vehicles, agricultural equipment or specialist machinery.

A vehicle shelter may be left open for easy movement or clad on selected sides to improve protection from wind and driving rain. For valeting and wash bays, the specification may also need to consider drainage, lighting, ventilation, water management and corrosion-resistant finishes.

Vehicle dimensions and turning movements should be confirmed before the frame layout is finalised. This allows the building height, openings and column positions to be designed around the vehicles that will actually use the space.
